1. Tomorrow is the One Year Anniversary of the Tragedy at Columbine High School

April 20th will mark the one-year anniversary of the tragic event at Columbine High School. As a nation, we will be compelled to revisit the tough issues at the forefront of childhood and adolescence. And we will again be challenged to explain this unfortunate incident to our children, who will ask, “could this happen at my school? Am I safe? What should I do if someone brings a gun to school?” While daunting, these questions present an opportunity for parents to establish open, honest communication with their kids about violence. We urge parents to utilize such incidents in a positive way, to create an ongoing dialogue with their kids about fears of bullying, crime and personal safety.
