The History of Recovery Retreats at JRH

Why does JRH hold Recovery Retreats?  The short answer is that Sr. Ignatiaasked us to.

Sr. Ignatia Gavin, CSAwas a founder of AA. Sheworked with Dr. Bob at St. Thomas Hospitalin Akron. She helped in the creation of AA and Al-Anon. In 1952 she wastransferred to St. Vincent Charity Hospital in Cleveland where she foundedRosary Hall, St. Vincent’s renowned alcohol and drug treatment center.

In the early 1950’s Sr. Ignatia thought that the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola had a lot to offer to people in recovery from addiction.
She called JRH and asked us to hold a retreat for recovering alcoholics.
We have been holding them ever since.
