Gary P. Miller Named Health System Leader to Know

Gary P. Miller, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck, was recently recognized in Becker’s Hospital Review as one of 291 Hospital and Health System Leaders to Know. He is the only hospital and health system leader in North Dakota to be named to this list.
John K. Castleberry, Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Medical Center, says, “Gary’s extensive experience and in-depth knowledge of the healthcare industry makes him very deserving of such recognition.” According to Sister Nancy Miller, President of the St. Alexius Board of Directors, Gary uses his vision to guide the Medical Center through change and innovation all while staying true to St. Alexius’ mission, Let all be Received as Christ.
Gary Miller has more than 30 years of healthcare experience. He joined St. Alexius in 1984 as Director of Fiscal and Information Systems. In 1988, he became Chief Financial Officer at the Medical Center. Most recently, he served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer prior to being named to his current position as President and CEO in May of 2011. Miller earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting from Moorhead State University, Minn. He also holds a C.P.A. certificate.
Active in the community, Gary serves as a member of the Board of Directors with the Bismarck Cancer Center, North Central Health Care Alliance (Primecare), Northland Healthcare Alliance, West River Regional Medical Center, Missouri Valley Family YMCA, Mobridge Regional Hospital, North Dakota Hospital Association, Noridian Mutual Insurance of North Dakota, Heart and Lung Clinic Operating Board and Bismarck-Mandan Development Association. He’s also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, North Dakota Society of Certified Public Accountants, North Dakota Healthcare Financial Management Association and National Healthcare Financial Management Association.
