Stations of the Cross
These new Stations of the Cross were installed in September, 2006. With the help of Henninger’s Religious Goods Store these Stations were fashioned in Italy. They are 16 “ in size, made of fiberglass and executed in a white marble finish. They are installed on cedar posts. These posts are three feet in the ground and set in cement. The old stations when demolished crumbled as they were filled with stones and bricks inside. Like our fallen trees that are left to decay so these old stations were scattered around. They are now part of the landscape and remind us that all things are passing. The old stations lasted 74 years and were the gift of retreatants from Detroit who came to Cleveland for retreats before Manresa Jesuit Retreat House opened in Bloomfield Hills. Each station is pictured as it stands outside around the cemetery – a cemetery that has 109 graves of Jesuits buried there. The new stations are basically in the same place as the old ones. These beautiful pictures of each station were taken by Fr. Ed Leonard, put through his computer, and then printed by him. The “”prayer”” listed for each station of the cross is taken from everyone’s way of the cross [by Clarence Enzler – Ave Maria Press]- a booklet at JRH familiar to many retreatants who make the Stations of the Cross. Two three-ring binders of these new Stations of the Cross are in the JRH library. These binders also contain the donor name(s) on a plaque on each station. Included in the binders is a listing of all the donors who made this project possible. Enjoy these lovely Stations of the Cross – a gift from JRH retreatants .
