Ultrasound of the Abdomen – Imaging Center
Please report to Admitting 15 minutes before your scheduled exam time. PREP: Nothing to eat or drink after midnight the night before the exam. No barium studies 2-3 days prior to the scan. PURPOSE: An Abdominal Ultrasound is done to look at the structures and organs of the abdomen. Organs included are the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, kidneys, spleen, and the aorta. WHAT TO EXPECT: You will be asked to lie on a scanning cart for the exam. A warm gel will be applied on your abdomen / pelvis and the technologist will move a hand-held transducer across the part of your body to be examined. TIME FRAME: 30-45 minutes POSSIBLE COMPLICATIONS: None
