Surgical Services

Surgical Services at St. Alexius Medical Center is more than just an operating room. Surgical Services provides a continuum of care beginning with PSE (Pre-Surgical Care Evaluation) where skilled nurses call the patient prior to surgery, obtaining basic health information and beginning the education process. These nurses coordinate care between the patient, the surgeon’s clinic and the medical center, ensuring that delays are minimized.

When a patient and family come to St. Alexius Medical Center’s Surgical Services for a procedure, they will experience a newly remodeled Pre-Surgical Care Unit (PSCU). This unit provides for patient and family privacy with amenities such as soothing music, televisions, soft lighting, and private rooms. Once the patient is settled into their PSCU room, they will have a thorough nursing health history assessment as well as educational preparation and other care prior to their surgical procedure. Patients will have the opportunity to meet with their surgical team, for example, their anesthesia provider and operating room nurse.

Surgical Services

Patients at St. Alexius Surgical Services are able to stay with family up until they go into the operating room, helping to improve patient relaxation and decreases anxiety for patients and families. All pre-operative care is provided in PSCU, such as blood draws, IV starts, EKG, radiology (Xrays), education, and assessments.

Physicians move from room to room, allowing the patient to stay in one spot prior to their surgical procedure which improves patient safety and satisfaction.

Everyone – from admitting to dietary to nursing to the physician – concentrates on teamwork because we know it takes all of us to get a patient through the medical center. Here at St. Alexius, we pride ourselves on caring for people as a whole.
