The Birthplace – Women’s Health
The Birthplace and Parent Information The nurses and physicians at St. Alexius are prepared to handle your birthing experience with care and compassion. Labor & Delivery To promote bonding we encourage baby to stay with mom and dad through the birth process. Three of the suites are equipped with whirlpool tubs to help promote relaxation and aid in pain management. Moms that require c-sections are able to recover in Labor and Delivery and are able to keep their baby with them. At The Birth Place, you will find one-on-one care and feel a personalized touch during the labor process. |
Mom/Baby The mom/baby unit at St. Alexius was designed to focus on the family. Each mother receives a private, spacious room that allows for the baby, family and visitors to share in this experience and begin developing new relationships. You may choose to “room-in” with your baby for part or all of the day during your stay at The Birth Place. To further promote the bonding process we support rooming-in, which allows you and your baby special time together to get to know each other. When your baby is in the nursery, nurses will provide care for your baby. Nursery doors are locked at all times. Room Service Dining is offered to patients to help enhance their experience while at St. Alexius. Each patient will be provided a menu to select their meals. Although many nurses will be involved in the care of you and your baby, mother-baby nursing gives one nurse primary responsibility in caring for the two of you. You may rely on her to help you plan your own postpartum care and to help you feel more confident with the care and feeding of your baby. |
NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) The St. Alexius NICU has state-of-the art technology and equipment to care for those born:
Care conferences may be held periodically with family members and the health care team to discuss the diagnosis, treatment and progress of your baby. Prior to your baby’s discharge, your primary nurse will coordinate discharge teaching, and cover all of your baby’s needs such as feeding and bathing, to help you feel comfortable in caring for your baby at home. |
Infant Security/Safety Immunization For the most up-to-date immunization recommendations, log on to the Centers for Disease Control. Well Baby Clinic The clinic also provides you with an opportunity to visit with other new mothers you may have met while at The Birth Place. No appointment is needed and there is no charge. The clinic is for well babies up to one year of age. Obstetrics & Gynecology Staff |
