Therapy Services – Human Performance Center
Pain Management – Therapy Services HPC
The Human Performance Center provides a wide variety of therapy programs designed to enhance the individuals recovery from illness or injury. One of the specialty therapy areas is the Pain Management Program a division of the Human Performance Center’s Occupational Therapy Department. Occupational Therapy helps people regain mobility, strength and improve daily function. There are times that recovery is much slower than expected resulting in chronic pain and dysfunction.
The Pain Management Program at the Human Performance Center provides unique, gentle, and progressive therapies specifically designed to reduce pain and improve function. The uniqueness of the Pain management Program is that it looks at the individuals entire body rather than focus on one or two painful joints.
This approach to whole body evaluation and treatment has proven to be effective in the treatment of chronic pain relating to muscle and connective tissues.

Common Diagnosis Treated:
- Repetitive Use Injury
- Traumatic Injury
- Migraines
- Muscle Tension Headaches
- Fibromyalgia
- Arthritis
- Neck and Back Pain
- Jaw pain
- Frozen Shoulder
To obtain the greatest amount of success the patient must commit to attending occupational therapy sessions from 1 to 3 times a week. The patient must take an active role in making lifestyle changes and follow a daily Home Exercise Program. Gradual progression from direct treatment to self management with improved function is our long time goal.
Insurance Coverage:
Outpatient Occupational Therapy is generally covered by insurance carriers. We encourage everyone to first check with their provider About St. Alexius the specifics of their coverage.
In most outpatient settings there are limitations to the length and amount of therapy allowed for each condition. The therapists of the Pain Management Program will continually document:
- Your Current Productivity Level
- Your Daily Functional Activities
- Your Pain Levels
- Your Compliance to the therapy
- Your Self Care Techniques
- Your Sleep Management
- Your Overall Progress
By documenting this information the therapist has the greatest potential to justify continued therapy beyond traditional time frames and limits.
