Highlight on Operating Room

The Operating Room (OR) Department and Endoscopy Services consist of 10 surgical and 2 endoscopy suites and are located in the basement of the 1983 and 1975 buildings. These units operate on a 24-hour basis with the majority of surgical cases performed between 7:00 AM and 3:30 PM. Inpatient prodecures are done in the Endoscopy suites. The predominant patient populations served are adults and geriatric patients. Occasional patient populations are infant, adolescent and pediatric. Comonly performed surgery includes but is not limited to: total joint replacement, laparoscopic procedures, biopsies and neurosurgical procedures.

Patients scheduled by members of the SAMC medical staff for major or minor surgical procedures are admiteed to the OR and Endoscopy Services Department. The Main Operating Room Department is responsible for performance of surgical cases. Surgical volume is determined by the medical staff. Case types vary by schedule and surgeon. The following surgeon specialties provide care of St. Alexius Medical Center: General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Cardiovasular, Plastics, Ophthalmology, Urology and ENT.Oral. Gastroenterologists and Pulmonologists perform cases in the Endoscopy suites.
