God and You—some thoughts from Scripture
“O Lord, you have probed me and you know me; you know when I sit and when I stand; you understand my thoughts from afar; behind me and before, you hem me in and rest your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me. . . You have formed my inmost being; you knit me in my mother’s womb. I give you thanks that I am wonderfully made.” [Psalm 139]
“I will give thanks to the Lord with all my heart in the company and assembly of the just. Great are the works of the Lord, exquisite in all their delights. Majesty and glory are his work, and his justice endures forever. He has won renown for his wondrous deeds; gracious and merciful is the Lord.” [Psalm 111]
“Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all my being, bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits; He pardons all your iniquities, he heals all your ills. He redeems your life from destruction, he crowns you with kindness and compassion, He fills your lifetime with good;. . .Merciful and gracious is the Lord, slow to anger and abounding in kindness. . . As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him, for he knows how we are formed; he remembers that we are dust. . . Bless the Lord, O my soul.” [Psalm 103]
“Come, let us sing joyfully to the Lord; let us acclaim the Rock of our salvation. Let us greet him with thanksgiving; let us joyfully sing psalms to him. For the Lord is a great God, and a great king above all gods;. . . Come, let us bow down in worship; let us kneel before the Lord who made us. For he is our God and we are the people; he shepherds, the flock he guides.” [Psalm 95]
O Lord, you are good and forgiving, abounding in kindness to all who call upon you. Hearken, O Lord, to my prayer and attend to the sound of my pleading. . . All nations you have made shall come and worship you, O Lord, and glorify your name. For you are great, and you do wondrous deeds; you alone are God.. Teach me, O Lord, your way that I may walk in your truth; direct my heart that it may fear your name.. . . Great has been your kindness to me; . . . O Lord you are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger , abounding in kindness and fidelity. Turn toward me and have pity on me; give your strength to your servant and save me. [Psalm 86]
Moses said to Joshua: Be brave and steadfast. Have no fear or dread. For it is the Lord, your God, who goes with you. God will not fail you. God will not forsake you. [Deuteronomy 31: 8]
I am the Lord, there is no other; I form the light and create the darkness; I make well-being and create woe; I, the Lord, do all these things. For thus says the Lord, the Creator of the heavens, who is God, the designer and maker of the earth who established it not creating it to be a waste , but designing it to be lived in: I am the Lord and there is no other. There is no just and saving God but me. Turn to me and be safe all you ends of the earth; for I am God and there is no other. [Isaiah 45ff]
