When asked why she likes doing what she does, Melissa said, “All of the residents are special to me. They all have amazing stories and memories. When I am visiting with each individual, I learn things that I may never have had the chance to learn. My favorite memories are spent listening to how some of the residents spent hours dancing at the different Dance halls from many years back. The outfit choices, the shoe fails, or even how much laughing they would do. Their eyes light up remembering these little details that they themselves had forgotten. When I let someone tell their story, it brightens their day and it reminds me how important each and every one of us are in this world. Just to be part of such an amazing community is what makes me love what I do. I always come to work with happiness in my heart, and I look for anyone who might need an extra smile that day. My job doesn’t ever feel like a job. I just love all of the residents.”
Melissa’s caring attitude shines through to her co-workers who commented with, “Melissa is always willing to help others to the best of her abilities. She is open to learn new ways, or develop better ways and ideas to improve teamwork within her department as well as other departments. She has stepped up to help, even giving up a planned vacation day to help prepare rooms and help another department with repairs. She is a true team player and is a kind, generous, cheerful person and it shows in her work and spreads to others around her! We appreciate Melissa in all she does for our facility.”
