: : : My son was diagnosed 5 years agao at age 4 with ADHD. He also has visual-spatial issues (block design is worst test on WISC). He received pre-school special ed. and some services in Kg. and first grade. He is doing O.K. academically in fourth grade. U have been preety involved with ADHD and LD networks in N.Y.C. Quite frankly. I never heard any child having this diagnosos! Plenty of Asperger’s and ADD, though. I would like to know if anyone knows of diagnosticians in the N.Y.C. area who use the NLD label. Thanks!

: : Hi, Yes NLD does exist and reading Sue Thompson’s Book The Source for NLD will answer your questions. It also has support information at the end of the book.
: : My son has been recently diagnosed as well.

: Donna- My question was not does NLD exist, but is anyone in New York City diagnosing it? Do you live in New york? Would you mind sharing the names of practitioners in the area who recognize this and can distinguish it from ADD?

Jane – OOps I misunderstood. I don’t live in New York, but here are some thoughts for getting a diagnosis. Do you have a school psychologist where you son goes? and if so they should be able to do testing to look at the discrepancy between verbal IQ and performance, and they should be aware of Byron Rourke stuff.
Another place to look for someone to test would be any psychological clinic that should be able to refer you. I will also call my friend in Ny city to get a mane for you, her son has had full testing. I’ll get back to you.
