Psycho-emotional state is an important aspect of women’s health. Changes in
modern life in the developed industrial society have intensified stressful
factors. It is known that various environmental factors, changes in the
interpersonal relations, biological rhythm disturbances can induce stress.
Similarly, the use of contraceptives by healthy woman may be considered a
stressful factor because despite the use of contraceptives the expectation of
unplanned pregnancy is observed in the majority (80%) of women. The aim of the
study was to investigate the psycho-emotional state of fertile women who use
different forms of contraceptives.
Methods We have examined 100 fertile women
who were divided into two groups, 50 persons in each, depending on the
contraceptive used. Group 1 included women who took Pills (produced by different
companies), group 2 consisted of 50 women who used the vaginal contraceptive
ring – NUVARING (product of N.V. Organon). The study of psycho-emotional stress
was made with the scale of L.Rider.
Results The level of psycho-emotional
stress by the scale of Rider in healthy fertile women who took Pills was as
follows: 30 % of women demonstrated high level of psycho-emotional stress, 40 %
showed middle-level psycho-emotional stress and in 30 % low level of
psycho-emotional stress was observed. As to healthy fertile women who used the
contraceptive NUVARING, the study of psycho-emotional stress by the scale of
Rider showed the following results: in 6 % of women high level of
psycho-emotional stress was observed, in 24% – middle-level psycho-emotional
stress and in 70% low level of psycho-emotional stress was shown.
The results obtained show that the use of the contraceptive ring NUVARING has a
favourable impact upon psycho-emotional state in fertile women.
