JoanStiles, Ph.D. Department ofCognitive Science, University of California at San Diego, La Jolla, California. Groundbreaking researchfocusing on the relationship between brain development and the development ofbasic spatial cognitive abilities such as part-whole processing or spatialattention.

Presenters:

Nanci Bell, M.A.  Nanci Bell, M.A., is the Director ofLindamood-Bell Learning Processes, and the author of the internationallyacclaimed programs, Visualizing and Verbalizing for Language Comprehension andThinking?, Seeing Stars? Symbol Imagery for Phonemic Awareness, Sight Wordsand Spelling, and On Cloud Nine? Math.  She is a former classroom teacherand is described as a
“research practitioner.”

David Berg, founderand creator of Making Math Real Institute and Clinic works with many studentswith NLD..  He is an author, educational therapist in private practice andinstructor in Making  Math Real for both University of California Extensionat Berkeley and University of California Extension at Santa Cruz.  He alsoruns a summer Math Camp for children grades two through eighth along with aclinical practicum for teachers and parents.

Dr. Brad Berman, M.D.  Developmental Pediatrician will look at alternative Interventions for students with NLD.

Mardi Bernard, RN, JudyCraig, M Ed.  The Edmonton Public School District, Canada  is involved with a pilot research project basedon Liza Little’s SAVME model. 

Kelli Bondcreatorand administrator of the popular NLD-In-Common. She has also written anexcellent article and book review for NLDline. Kelli will share her newest experiences about the working world, employment and NLD.

Dale S. Brown, author of hundreds of articles and five books on various aspects of employment,and has spoken at over one thousand conferences about employment, jobaccommodation, self-help, and related issues. From Learning Disabilities toEarning Abilities: Finding a Job and Planning Your Career, and Finding Friendsand Persuading People: Overcoming the Challenge of NLD

Bernadette Evans,Ph.D.,clinical and school psychologist,  serves as a consultant to a number ofschool districts and has a private practice in the Berkeley and San Mateo areaswhere one of her programs includes social skills classes.

Bonny Forrest, JD, PhD, Columbia University, NY State Psychiatric InstituteResearch Fellow will discuss the difference between Asperger’s Syndrome and Nonverbal Learning Disorder.

Deborah Green, MA is the author of Growing Up With NLD.  She received a Bachelors in English from Scripps College, a Masters in English from Boston University, and a Masters in Education from Tufts University. She is currently teaching sixth grade Language Arts and Literature in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Meryl Lipton, M.D., Ph.D., neurologist and director of the Rush Neurobehavioral Center in Skokie, Illinois, who has a long-standing interest in education and neurology with a particular focus on NLD and the newest findings in  pharmacology

Judith Paton, M.A. audiologist with interests NLD and  Central Auditory Processing Disorders.

Judith Piggot, M.D., visiting  Child Psychiatrist with a degree in genetics from Scotland working at Stanford University- She is studying social cognition and the perception of social information.

Kathleen Rozman, Monterey Peninsula College educator of NLD students will share her experience and successful  interventions. 

Beth Samuelson, M.A. Student Organizational Services (SOS) specializes in coaching students in organization and learning strategies, will speak on NLD and Problems of Executive Function.

Herb Schreier, M.D.,  Psychiatrist at Children?s Hospital Oakland, is a renowned author, teacher and expert on NLD and other neurocognitive disorders. 

Kathryn Stewart, Ph.D., clinical psychologist and Director of Orion Academy, the first California high school of its kind, specializing in the assessment and education of children with neurocognitive difficulties, will compare the syndromes of  Asperger’s and NLD. author of Helping a Child with Nonverbal Learning Disorder or Asperger?s Syndrome: A Parent?s Guide

Mary White-Roath, EdD is a fellow at the Yale University Haskins Laboratory. She will consider the theoretical and instructional aspects of reading comprehension in students with NLD

Michelle Garcia Winner, MA, CCC, speech pathologist specializing in social-cognition. . She is currently in private practice including direct service, consultation, and is a nationally-acclaimed workshop leader.  Michellehas authored two popular books on interventions with social thinking deficits, the newest on Perspective Taking. Inside Out and Thinking about YOU Thinkingabout ME.

Michael Woodin, Ph.D.  Rush Neurobehavioral Center: Putting Diagnoses to Work Creating Action and Understanding Through Provision of Feedback.
