: Devin,

: I understand what it is like to feel like things are never going to change. I have similar feelings regarding trying to find a suitable job as I swear I have tried everything including working with someone out of state and it just hasn’t worked. As people on various boards know, I go on a rant every now and then.

: But when you get right down to it, I am the one who has to keep trying things as discouraging as it may get. As much as I desperate want to give up at times, it just isn’t an option. Yeah, I might eventually break down because of all the frustrations but I would rather go that route than simply give up.

: As one went through seven psychiatrists in 95 before finding the one I still have, I know what it is like to find someone suitable. You can’t give up and throw in the towel. No doubt, it is going to be hard to find someone who understand NLD but believe it or not, when I was a student at a local university, a psychologist in the counseling center did get it although I don’t think she was a true NLD Expert.

: I know how you feel about your mother controlling you. I don’t live with my mother but I have similar feelings. I think NLD complicates things because once you feel you have got one area figured out, good old mom throws a curveball to mess things up.

: Anyway, as you know, mom is not going to change and it is up to us to figure out ways of dealing with our mothers that don’t kill our self esteem. Easier said than done, I know.

: I hope the aptitude testing helps you. I took it way before my diagnosis and it didn’t. But maybe it will be different for you.

: Anyway, pick one thing to work on first and not worry about the other stuff. Hang in there.

: PT

Dear PT:
To the rescue again. I really do appreciate yr pep talks. It helps to hear from someone who has been there and done that. I have doubts about the apptitude tests but by the time I find help and right now I am getting nothing but brush offs, “not seeing new patients, on vacation, only teat children ect.” a good chunk of time will be gone and I need to find work asap.
Anyway thansk again.
