My son is ADD (not sure yet about NLD — having him tested soon) — primarily distractible. He was on Ritalin for a while (until he developed tics and had to be taken off) One thing I noticed while he was on medication, was he became aware of the fact that people he thought were his friends before (who needs friends like those)weren’t really his friends at all. In some ways, this really isolated him. After we had to take him off the medication, we tried “socialization groups” which seemed to help him more than the medication. He still gets picked on sometimes, and taken advantage of (because he’s very trusting — still firmly believes in the guy with the red suit and he’s 12!) but every once in a while he works up the courage to stand up for himself!
