For what it’s worth, my 9 y/o son does exactly the same thing with reading. Now that the books are denser, he is reading less. When he does read, he seems to finish the book in a sitting. I can’t imagine he is reading THAT fast. When he reads aloud, he skips words also – which of course, exascerbates his comprehension issues. I am thinking of trying vision therapy for him in an effort to see if the “skipping” problem can be resolved. If you do find out any ways to cope with it, I’d be delighted if you could let me know.

PS – As for math, even though he is quite good at it, I see his confidence slipping and wonder if the same “brain thing” is happening here too.
