It’s great to hear that your daughter is doing so well. Would you mind elaborating on what your daughter’s primary difficulties have been and how you’ve addressed those, what resources have been most helpfl to her? My son is currently doing Occupational Therapy for his fine motor and motor planning and will be evaluated for vision therapy later this month. : My child has a dual label – ADD/NLD. As she had grown, now 11 yrs old, the NLD symptoms cause her the most difficulty. She takes both ritalin (for attention, and Prozac, for mood dysregulation). You should be thankful that you have your son diagnosed so early. My daughter was diagnosed at age 6. We have been able to seek a lot of help b/c we knew early. She is still in a regular ed setting and works at grade level in all subjects but writing. I have found it helpful to read about both disabilities, identify which symptoms she has and needs extra help with and to address those 1 by 1. Rourke is a pessimist. I have much higher aspirations for my child. You should too.

: : :Thanks, Debbie, for your response. My son actually scored lowest on Geometric Design, Block Design and Mazes. These scores were the ones below the 50 percentile. The block Design was particularly low at 5th percentile. Interestingly enough when he was evaluated by the OT person he did really well on block design. His very high scores were in Information, Comprehension, Vocab and Sentence Completion. Object Assembly and Picture Completion were farily high on the PIQ side. Arithmetic was 50th percentile and Similarities were 70th percentile. I don’t know what this all means except that the resulting gap between VIQ and PIQ prompted the diagnosis. I will definitely call to order the book you’ve recommended and hopefully it will be a bit more upbeat than the Rourke book. Thanks again
